OUR STORY

Jan Greer and Michael Kokas started Upstate Farms back in 1989 when they saw the opportunity to connect restaurants in NYC with the bounty of Greater Hudson Valley farms. Initially selling foraged mushrooms door-to-door to chefs in the city, they grew to include family-owned produce and dairy farms all over NY state as a forerunner in the true small-farm-to-table movement.

Today, Jan and Michael continue their operation with a small team while maintaining a big impact. Upstate Farms represents over a thousand acres of farmland throughout New York State. They tend to their own farm in Tivoli, NY offering herbs, foraged greens and mushrooms, maple syrup, honey and vegetables.

THE FARM BOX

Our farm box has become a way to provide the five boroughs with produce, eggs and dairy from a mix of NY state farms to your door or local pick-up. Cook at home with the same ingredients our Michelin starred chefs have been enjoying for decades– supporting small, family farms at the same time.

Read more about our offerings on our Farm Box page.

Jan and Michael host chefs from the Michelin Star restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns on the farm for foraging and a pig roast.
